Statement from Street Parish Council
* Southside Car Park Public Toilets, Vestry Road, Street, BA16 0HY
In March 2024, Somerset Council informed Street Parish Council that, due to financial constraints, they would no longer be able to clean and maintain the public toilets they own in Southside Car Park. As a result, the toilets were scheduled for closure on 1 April 2024.
At our Full Council Meeting on 19 March 2024, Street Parish Council resolved to enter into a rolling lease agreement with Somerset Council to keep the toilets open. As part of this arrangement, the Parish Council took responsibility for arranging a cleaning contract as a short-term measure while exploring longer-term solutions.
Following a recent inspection, a number of significant maintenance issues have been identified. These issues have necessitated the immediate closure of the Southside Car Park Public Toilets.
Street Parish Council sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused. The future of these facilities will be discussed at our next Full Council Meeting on Tuesday, 17 December 2024. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards a resolution and will continue to keep the community updated.
